This project encompasses the concept development, prototyping, and implementation phases of "Capybara Sort," a puzzle game. As a team, our goal was to merge the mechanics of popular sorting games with a unique and dynamic theme. This project not only demonstrates our ability to create an engaging game but also showcases our skills in managing complex game mechanics, designing character dynamics, and strengthening team collaboration.
The core of the game revolves around players correctly seating Capybaras with various attributes in the designated seats of different vehicles (buses, trains, etc.). This fundamental sorting mechanic is enriched with diverse Capybara types, each introducing a unique challenge: the randomly moving Child Capybara, the temporarily frozen Frozen Capybara, and the space-occupying Fat Capybara that takes up two seats. These variations create dynamic puzzles that test the player's strategic thinking.
A key feature of the game is the Idle Map mechanic. After completing each level, players advance on a visual map that shows the vehicles traveling, with the Capybaras they sorted now in their seats. This provides a satisfying sense of progression and a smooth transition between levels, enhancing the player's overall experience. Additionally, the booster system offers players extra tools to solve complex puzzles in later levels, adding to the game's depth.
The "Capybara Sort" project was executed using an Agile methodology. We structured the initial concept and prototyping phases into sprints, with each team member focusing on their area of expertise, such as game design, software development, or art.
Our regular meetings and feedback loops were crucial for quickly and effectively resolving technical challenges, such as coding the random movement of characters or ensuring smooth interactions between different Capybara types. This project serves as a testament to our competence in managing all stages of a project, from initial idea to final product, while maintaining strong team communication and achieving our shared goals.
This project is a prime example of successful collaboration, bringing together creative thought, technical skill, and strong teamwork to deliver a polished product.
